About the Artist
My name is Lara Schuhmann and I am maternity, infant, toddler and family photographer serving Wilmington and the surrounding areas of North Carolina. I specialize in custom portraiture, candid photographs and black & white photography utilizing both natural and studio lighting.
I am a member of the Professional Photographers of America, Inc., and am continually engaged in my photographic education. Belonging to a network of professional photographers allows me to be at the forefront of new techniques and ideas to create first class sessions for my clients.
I am a long time Wilmingtonian and graduate of J.T. Hoggard High School (GO VIKES!) and the School of Journalism at UNC Chapel Hill. In 2007, after a brief period living and working abroad, I started my own photography business. Personally and professionally, it is truly a dream come true - I can follow my heart and provide lasting memories and keepsake portraiture for generations.
My focus is on building strong relationships with my clients, starting with maternity and newborn sessions and following your child's journey through their first year and beyond. Working with families during these exciting times creates a bond that I truly cherish.
Living in Wilmington affords us numerous locations for your session - beaches, amazing parks and historic downtown Wilmington. I am also available to come to your home. A home session can include a full studio set-up (lighting, backdrops and props) or we can utilize items in your home for a more casual scene.
Since each family is different and each child needs a different approach, following an initial consultation, I will tailor your session to fit the needs and desires of your family. This allows me to provide you with images that really capture the essence of your child and the love your family feels for each other.
My goal is for you to leave the session feeling great about your photography experience, not rushed and frustrated. Sessions are not limited to forty five minutes or an hour - I don't wear a watch and I don’t book back-to-back sessions. Moms-to-be often will like to relax mid-session, newborns will get hungry and want to be rocked, and toddlers will want to do something other than take pictures. I understand these things and quite enjoy spending time with you, getting to know your children and having a mid-session chat. This relaxed and enjoyable approach works best for all of us - and it will be reflected in your final images.
